A Box For My Birthday
(Larry Read)
2008-04-29
I want a box for my Birthday,
I know it's rather odd-
My sister wants a dolly,
My brother, a hot rod!
But a box is all I want,
Just one box will do-
Or maybe I'll need another-
Let’s make my order, two!
I will build myself a house
With a special second floor.
Or maybe I’ll make myself
A house with a very secret door!
But I'd like to have a chimney,
So I'll need another box-
Dad, let’s make it three,
To store my shirts and socks!
I think I'll add a table
From a few extra flaps,
I'll invite, Spot, my dog,
And feed him some scraps!
But perhaps he'll want to sleep
So, I'll need another room-
Five boxes Dad should do it,
Much better than two!
Yep, five ought to do it!
Unless I need another room.
My house will need a bedroom
And of course a kitchen too!
Let's see, that’s six, that’s seven,
Just a few more than before!
And now I think I’ll build myself
An entire new third floor!
Eleven’s a good number, dad!
It's the best gift I'll ever have!
I'll build it big and tall,
Bigger than the city mall!
And if you want a room Dad,
I'll need at least one more
A dozen ought to do it
Much better than before
Thirteen seems just perfect!
I'm convinced fourteen will do-
But all this seems like a lot of work,
Maybe I’ll just get two!
Or actually just one big one,
Would probably be just right!
I’ll make that box a home
And stay there every night!
Yeah, I’ll make that box a home
And stay there every night!
